"Angels with Skin"

Words & Music by Daniel J. Paolini

One day, my cute little angel jumped into my lap
with inquisitive eyes and said "Daddy,
(Yes, son?) uhhh, what are angels?"
I smiled and then began telling him angels are God's way
of watching out over his children
when parents aren't there.

That night, as we all lay sleeping, a thunderstorm crept in
and suddenly silence was shattered
(we heard) a thunderous BOO-OOM!
Shortly I heard little feet of my wonderful angel
pad nervously out to the hallway
and into my room.

I asked my trembling angel,  "Son, what is the matter?
Do thunder booms scare you? Remember,
(Yes, Dad?) that angels are watching,"
"Daddy, I know there are angels, and they help me most times,
but I can not hug them so sometimes,
(Yes, son?) I need an angel with skin."

So we came up with this little prayer,
explaining to God and His angels above.
We do not want them to think we don't care
When we must hug the people we love.

"Thanks for all of the angels I meet.
Those of the spirit and those with two feet.
It's nice to know when I'm on my own,
Angels are with me, I'm not all alone.
The ones I can't see that watch over me,
are wonderful, but now and then
I hope You don't mind that sometimes I find
I need an angel with skin."

I hope You don't mind that sometimes I find
I need an angel with skin."
