IMP Office Mission

"To support the CIO and DISA missions through the analysis, development and maintenance of information management and information technology policy to promote effective enterprise-wide information resource management and information operations and services."

I. History:

The IMP staff office was established in the spring of 1996, during a reorganization of the CIO and DISC. We have produced agency policies on Information Management, The World Wide Web and Internet, Year 2000 date data standards, and standard PC configurations.

II. Description:

IMP is responsible for developing Policy for DISA Information Management. We coordinate the concurrence of such policies through the agency, and distribute as appropriate. We are a staff office reporting to the Chief Information Officer. The IMP staff also contains the CIO webmaster function.

III. Current Status:

IMP is currently involved in deciding Policy on a number of issues including:

• Year 2000 Crisis
  
  The CIO is the POC for the Year 2000 issue in DISA and DoD. Please visit our Year 2000 (Y2K) Home Page. It can also be reached through the DISA Key Subject Index.
  
  
• Internet Policy
  
  IMP is responsible, in coordination with DISC, for developing on the agency standard response to all things on the Internet and all things dealing with the World Wide Web.
  
  
• Information Services Policy
  
  View the Director's Policy Letter 96-6 of 5 September 1996 on use of information services by DISA personnel and contractors.
  
  
• Desktop Hardware Standards
  
  IMP coordinated the new agency standards for purchasing PC Desktops for Fiscal Year 1997. This standard is dynamic, and we are always working with the DISC to update as required.

IV. Future Plans:

• To continue to deal with the Year 2000 Crisis as it applies to DISA, and to DoD.
• To coordinate all major information technology policy decisions for DISA.
